Firing Line Classes & Workshops

Lytle Creek Firing Line hosts classes, workshops, and skill building activities. All of our instructors are fully qualified with either the National Rifle Association or other advanced training, and personal experiences.

We plan these activities to meet your schedule, and can be provided to individual, couples, families and groups. Cost are $400/person/day, discounts for minor children when accompanied by parent.

NRA Classes

NRA classes are considered the gold standard of basic firearms safety courses. When you complete these courses successfully, you will receive an NRA certificate. You will learn firearms safety, how to load and unload your firearm, basic shooting skills, as well as proper maintenance and cleaning of your firearm.

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.

Course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

This course is at least eight hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course

This course is at least 10 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a pistol for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. Prerequisite NRA Basic Handgun course.

NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Course

Teaches beginning reloaders the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely reload metallic cartridges.

Lytle Creek Firing Line Beginning Firearms Courses

We offer beginning classes to our customers that would like a full day of personal education. We are able to incorporate multiple firearms into a single class, for example rifle and pistol. You will learn basic gun safety, parts of a firearm, proper care and maintenance and storing. We will also teach you basic shooting skills as well.

These classes do not receive a certificate.

Basic Pistol Shooting Course

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This is an 8 hr course. This course does not receive a certificate.

Basic Rifle Shooting Course

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use and ownership of a rifle in target shooting. This is an 8 hr course. This course does not receive a certificate.

Basic Shotgun Shooting Course

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target. This is an 8 hr course. This course does not receive a certificate.

Firearms in the Home

This is a course for the whole family, those who are familiar with firearms and those who are not. We want you to bring whatever firearms you own and your whole family. The course covers the basic of aspects of firearms ownership, cleaning, safety, responsibility, and storage, as well as target practice and marksmanship.

The objective of this course is for everybody in the family to understand the basic rules of firearm safety, care and operation of the firearm. This will be a six to eight hour course, depending on the number of firearms you bring and the number participants.

If you are considering bringing a firearm into your home this is a course you will want to attend with your whole family.

Limited to a family of 5; two parents and 3 minor children.

Lytle Creek Firing Line Workshops and Skill Building Activities

Lytle Creek Firing Line offers workshops and skill building opportunities in a number of the shooting disciplines. These workshops/skill building opportunities are designed to provide people with an opportunity to get together and share their knowledge and refine their skills. The focus is firearms safety, sight alignment, target acquisition, breathing, marksmanship, and follow through.

Pistol

  • Conceal Carry Practice, basic through advanced, static targets, multiple targets, through moving targets, real life scenarios.
  • Bulls-eye pistol

Shotgun/Trap shooting

These workshops are intended to familiarize beginning and experienced shooters with the nuances of a trap shooting facility and game in a friendly and encouraging setting. We stress firearms safety, range etiquette, sportsmanship, and marksmanship while enjoying clay pigeons thrown with our automatic trap machines. This is a self-paced workshop. This is a great activity for wing shooting practice.

Junior Activities

These activities are designed to educate and train youth in firearms safety, as well as marksmanship and sportsmanship. We start with the basics of firearms safety then move on to principles and techniques of marksmanship. The primary goals of these activities are to make juniors firearms safe, regardless of age, and to foster enjoyment of a lifelong sporting activity:

    • Shotgun – This activity is intended to be provide enjoyment through successfully tracking and hitting a flying clay target. We will review firearms safety for the range as well as hunting situations.
